Just “discovered” Creative Business, an online resources for Creative Service Business. They have a ton of articles on graphic design, from Pricing, to working with Non-For-Profits, to Marketing and Business Forms. These articles are PDF downloads for a fee, but they also provide lots of free resources as well as links to helpful websites. They have a sample newsletter, which you can download for free so you can preview what they provide. It contains articles such as Responding to Requests for Special Discounts, How Much Should I Be Making, and Working Around Those Project Delays, all of which look interesting and useful.
I’ve been looking for a good resource for graphic design articles (design trends, business matters, tips/advice). I had let my HOW magazine subscription expire (boo) and have been too busy to go on blogs to read up. I’ve looked on newsstands, and a lot of the trade mags are getting to be too advertisement heavy. You have to actually dig around to find the articles sometimes. But today I did a little research and found this, as well as renewed HOW (Yeah!). What I like about Creative Business is that you can download and print the pages you’re interested in, because for me, the ideal time to read is on the train.
So I’m going to read through this sample newsletter, and give it some serious thought. The yearly subscription is a little high, but based on what I’ve seen so far, it might be worth it. In the meantime, if any of you have additional suggestions on sites, magazines or articles, I’d be happy to hear them. :)
